San Juan arrival wasn't scheduled until 5:00 p.m., leaving plenty of time for more fun at sea. Susan enjoys the "Fun Ship Slide". The true shock, however, comes when you realize the pool and slide are filled with salt water.

The day is again cloudy and chilly, though a little better. This was the first day Greg was able to smell coconut oil, so obviously more sunbathers were out. The seas remained extremely rough, even with the stabilizers which keeps the Paradise straight and level.

Brooklyn and Preston take advantage of the pitching and yawing of the ship. They found the children's pool behaved like an ocean with waves crashing from side to side. Watching them have fun and hearing them shriek with laughter entertained all who watched.

San Juan crept up on us quickly. A light sprinkle of rain accompanied us into the bay. We had read that captains of ships all agree that this is one of the most impressive entrances to an island. The Fort of El Morro welcomes us as we approach.

This fort quickly catches Preston's attention. We had talked to him about the fort before we left. He was very interested and knew that the windows in the fort were used to aim the cannons. Having a verandah on the port side of the ship provided us with a great view as we entered.

Though the skies remained cloudy, by the time we ported in San Juan, the weather was warm. After Greg checked in with his dad and how the business was going, we headed off in search of the fort. The fort appeared to be a long ways away, so we gave up on that idea and headed into the center of town. We had no idea that later on that night as we returned to the ship, we looked straight up the hill and no further than three blocks away was another huge fort.

After a long walk, Brooklyn began to make deals with dad for piggy back rides. A fire boat interests Preston and Greg and becomes a resting spot, at least for Brooklyn. The highlight of the day for the kids was finding a Macdonald's. Although it didn't have a playground, they enjoyed the familiar surroundings and food, even though the menu was in Spanish.

The best part of the cruise for Susan came in the middle of town square in San Juan where we found pigeons, pigeons and more pigeons. Though Brooklyn was afraid at first, Susan convinces her to hold bird seed in her hand and in no time, she has pigeons eating out of her hand. Susan could have stayed there all evening. Preston and Greg remained uninterested. Preston did discover removing his hat scared the pigeon and off they flew each time he touched his hat.

As we returned to the ship, we realized that there was a fort just up the hill within walking distance. We scurried up the hill to a large fort, but it had just closed. Preston was so disappointed. We walked to the cliff which over looked the beach below. Here is where the soldiers would aim their cannons, hopefully not towards the Carnival Paradise as it would soon be leaving at 2:00 in the morning.
