Surprise after surprise, flying on a helicopter to Catalina Island was probably the best surprise of all for the kids and Greg both. This was a great present from grandpa, who had surprised the kids by showing up unexpectedly on Friday morning.

After picking grandpa up from the airport, Greg noticed a great cafe with antique planes on display outside in the parking lot. There were twenty other planes behind the restaurant.

Randall was excited to take a picture by this plane because one of his friends flew this type of plane during the war.

While waiting to be picked up by the helicopter, Preston was amazed by this large anti-aircraft gun on display. Examining it inch by inch, it took him a few minutes to realize what was going on around him.

Less than thirty feet away aboard a ship, the Los Angeles SWAT team was practicing storming a ship. Catching Preston's full attention, Preston noted each gun and really liked seeing them repel down the side of the ship. Needless to say, waiting for the helicopter was very entertaining.

Probably more thrilled than even the kids, Greg could hardly wait to ride in the helicopter. This fifteen minute ride to Catalina sure beat the hour boat ride we had taken years earlier.

Grandpa is please to provide such a great adventure for Greg and the kids.

Arriving at Catalina, they were set for the four hour stay.

Brooklyn spent most of her time chasing birds on the beach.

Aboard the Atlantis submarine, the kids are set to see the variety of fish in the corral reef.

Putting food out for the fish, the submarine becomes engulfed by fish of all kinds.

Not wanting to leave, Brooklyn watches the helicopter as it lands to return them to the main land.

Sitting in front this time, Preston enjoys being by the pilot.

Even grandpa enjoyed the ride more than he realized. Of course none of us dreamed it would spark a dream in Greg's heart to fly a helicopter.

Friday night was a special night for all of us. Visiting the house in Corona Del Mar brought lots of memories back for Greg and Randall both. Grandpa's parents lived there for ten years when Greg was a child. Greg remembers many visits to California to visit them.

As part of our trip to the old house, Greg took the first step in fulfilling his mother's burial wishes. He and the kids spread part of her ashes on the beach outside of the house.

Walking down the steep hill to the beach, Greg enjoys taking picture by the surf as the tide comes in. The night proved to be very fulfilling and peaceful for Greg as he felt good about being able to finally leave part of his mother's ashes where she wanted them.
